The $300 laptop… is it for real?
Short answer: Yes, it is.
Long answer: What you need it for has a big impact on whether or not you should spend money on it.
Let’s go over it.
The $300 (actually, $255) laptop made news last year when it billed itself as the ultimate solution for those who can’t actually pay for a standard computer. Cheap, small and practical, it has enough of everything to allow you to write, surf the internet and run some basic programs without any trouble.

If you’re looking for a portable machine that costs little, this may be a great solution. It’s also a great way to have computer access without having to carry your expensive laptop around, or to save money by saving a (much) cheaper desktop computer and complementing it with this one. In the end, you need to weight the pros and cons of such a small machine, but I wouldn’t discount it at all, especially if your alternative is to have no computer at all.
