reading for free

Love to read? The easiest way to do this for free is to join your local library (just remember to return the books on time or you will end up paying lots of fees!) There are times, however, when you just have to own a specific book. If a $25 hardback is outside your budget, there are alternatives you can explore.

Try library sales. If you’re looking for a genre, rather than a specific title, you’ll probably find something there.

Look up the book in Half.com, where you can easily find Pulitzer prize winners for as little as $1. EBay is another option. Just remember to factor in shipping costs.

Ask for it as a birthday or Christmas present. Better than getting something you have no use for.

Check if it’s available online. Many classics have expired copyrights and are available as free downloads on the Internet.

Stop by your local thrift store. Many have a large selection of books for pennies. The same is true of garage sales.

Trade with a friend. Or a neighbor. Or set up a trading post at your local church or club meeting.

Once you’re finished with a book, pass it on. Others will follow your example and you’ll end up with something to read, not matter what.
